Reflect upon our classroom experiences the last few weeks on
the Internet (i.e. Internet Basics, Emerging Internet Technologies: Wikis,
Blogs, RSS, Podcasts, Internet Safety Lesson, your public service announcement
on Internet Safety, and the online/technology study project).
Use these experiences to support or refute one of the following statements:
*
- “These new emerging Internet technologies allow us (students/teachers) to do things before that were never possible.
- “Books and Textbooks should never be replaced by Internet based resources”
- “The Internet is a dangerous place for teens!”

The internet CAN be a dangerous place fore teens, but only the stupid ones. If they talk to random people they do not know and give out personal information they are bound to get hurt or have a stranger stalk them. If teens are smart about what they do online it can be a very safe place.

"the internet is a dangerous place for teens"
i dont agree with this becuse the internet is most normal teenagers life. if youre stupid with it then it may be dangerous but you have to be cautious when you are online. only talk to your friends and dont give out personal information. the internet helps teens learn alot of things they need to know about life they just need to be careful on how they get it and where.

“These new emerging Internet technologies allow us (students/teachers) to do things before that were never possible." I agree with this statement because i use these new technologies everyday. New internet technologies allow us to do even more than before on the internet. Now we have technologies such as blogs and podcasts. We've been studying blogs and podcasts in class, and we have been actively using a blog site. Blogs allow us to express our ideas on certain subjects and discuss them within a community; which is something we've hardly been able to do.

The Internet can be an unsafe place if you don't know how to use it. Teens that are always on the Internet but don't know the dangers of it or what can happen shouldn't be on there in the first place. Before you sign on the Internet, you should know how to handle uneasy situations with predators and how to react to them. Teens that know how to use the Internet are safe, but for others that are using it for the first time may by unsafe.

“The Internet is a dangerous place for teens!”
If teens are not cautious on the internet, dangerous situations can come about. You should never talk to someone you do not know. They could be a predator looking for a nice young girl. Also, you should never give away personal information, like your address, credit card number or full name. Lastly, if you feel threatened by an online predator, you should immediately tell a parent or guardian and warn them about your uncertainly.

I agree with the thrid statement that the internet is a dangerous place for teens because after watching all the presentations i saw that many teens from 13-17 had not talked about internet safety. also it seems like it is especially dangerous for females because they were the most targeted teens in the stats.

I don't think that the internet is a dangerous place for teens. That seems to general. It can be dangerous but teens just have to be smart about what they do. We talked about not putting up pictures of yourself and not talking to people you don't know. So it is just about being smart. If someone came up to you on the sidewalk you wouldn’t talk to them, so why would you do it online. There is also the problem of bogs and chatrooms and myspace. There are so many different ways for these people to get in contact with you. So the internet can be safe and a very useful tool, you just can’t be stupid about it. Kids should tell their parents if there is a problem or they could just get a new Sn, it’s not that hard! Be smart, be safe.

Although the interent is a dangerous place fo teens, it is not as dangerous as people think since it is very avoidable. Make sure you know the person you are talking to online or that 1 of your friends know the person. People have said the teen have met someone in person they knew only online and that is a pretty stupid thing to do. And that is something that is avoidable. So although the internet has some dangers all of the dangers are easy to avoid if your smart

i disagree with the comment "books and textbooks should never be replaced by internet based sources" because if has accsess to the internet that people woundnt have to carry around these big books to class. if tuition was lower and we didnt have to pay for books maybe everyone could have laptops so the hw and papers would be all elctronic. but i also understand not everyone has a laptop. Not a surman, Just a thought

The internet is a dangerous place for teens. I still think that teens should be allowed on the internet, but it should be controlled. On the internet there are dangerous things and people. There are hateful and racist video games, onlines predators, and viruses attached in emails or downloaded files. Place like My Space and Face book are fun places, but you should not be putting personal information up. This is how an online predator is attracted to people. Also blogs may have dangerous content that teens should not view. Many times this content is not regulated and teens are not prevented from viewing these. Many files also have false names that will say something but the file, blog, podcast, or email mayhave inapropriate content. I'm not saying that teens can't use the internet but am saying that teens internet use should be regulated.

“Books and Textbooks should never be replaced by Internet based resources”
i agree with this statement because i think that no matter how advanced technoolgy gets and much information is put out on he internet i still think that it is important be able to have a hard copy of the information that you need to adquire. Information on the inernet can be very usefull however useing book thathave been around for ages andyou kno that the information is relyable is good to know.

"The internet is a dangerous place for teens!"
I disagree with this statement. THe internet can be a dangerous thing if teens aren't careful, but during the last few classes we've learned a lot of different things we can do to prevent ourselves from being endangered on the internet. We know there are people and sites on the internet that can't be trusted, and teenagers should be smart enough to know that they can't trust these people. The internet can be a great tool for teenagers if the know what they're doing and are careful

I think the statement "The Internet is a dangerous place for teens!” is true but can be exaggerated. There are online predators that are trying to lure kids to them and there are viruses that can be sent around, but you can stay safe if you stay smart. If all kids didn't let out personal information, didn't post pictures of themselves, and never talked to people they didn't know, they would be a lot safer. Kids should just be aware and careful of how much info they give about themselves and if they do talk to people they don't know they should never meet them face to face, especially alone. Too many kids disappear when they meet online predators. Kids should just follow good internet safety rules and talk to thir parents about what is going on.

“Books and Textbooks should never be replaced by Internet based resources”
I disagree with this statement. The internet has alot of helpful information and tools that makes things easier and more convinent. Also the internet is growing and will soon be helpful for other things.

Yes I think that the internet is a dangerous place for teen on the fact that there are teen abductions evrey from people being on the internet. Teen will meet people in chat rooms or on Mtspace and not konw who they are and then when they get attached to them be the person comforting them or making them promices they will want to meet the person and that is when it goes wrong. SO the internet is a not just a way for imformation but it is a way for people to be harrased and even abducted

The internet can be a dangerous place for teens now with MySpace and sex predators that roam online. Parents must become aware that the internet can expose teens to explicit content through these "places of friends." it can also be a safe place if you don't get into these site you won't be exposed to any of these issues.

"books and textbooks should never be replaced by internet based resources"
I agree with this statement because I believe that although the internet is a great place where we can find almost anything, it should be used in addition to books and textbooks not toreplace the books. I say this because the internet doesnt always work sometimes sites are down or our computers dont always function properly and we shouldnt rely on a computer and forget that in the media center, where we are doing all our internet reearch we can walk around a little and find books with great resources as well. Also I learn better by reading a book. I dont know why but I have more difficulty reading something and learning something off the computer screen than out of a book or off of a paper.

“These new emerging Internet technologies allow us (students/teachers) to do things before that were never possible."
I agree with this statement because it has changed the educational system. Instead of taking a trip to the library, you can find information for a project in the comfort of you own home on online encyclopedias such as SIRS or InfoCentre. As you can see, internet technology has helped students greatly, making it a lot easier for students to access significant information. The internet also makes teachers more available to students - a student can email a teacher with a question or ask for advice on a paper.
Internet technology has helped teachers warn students of all the internet risks.

“The Internet is a dangerous place for teens!” I disagree with this statement. The internet allows us to communicate a lot easier and faster. The internet is dangerous to every only because their are virus's out their, bad people out their, and bad web sites. But the internet is mostly good for everyone. It provides information for people that are curious about anything. It also gives us resources to do HW and papers. The internet is very usefully for everyone but especially teens because they use computers the most. They use myspace, facebook, aim, etc everyday.

The internet can be be dangerous for teens becuase of the online sex predators, but not always. Usually teens today are educated about online predators and dont get caught in and problems with them. Some curious teens may go on websites that are innapropriate, but dont harm anyone

Yes i beleive that the internet allows us to do many things that were never possible. It lets us look any information in a few clicks. Its an alternative for all of the tasks that took a lot of effort. For example, before the internet people had to research on topics by going o the library and get all of your information from books you read.
